LookWest.ie shortlisted for social media award

LookWest.ie, the Western Development Commission’s (WDC) online guide to living, working and doing business in Ireland’s western region, has been shortlisted for a social media award. The awards, which celebrate the best of social media, are organised by Damien Mulley, one of Ireland’s leading authorities on social media. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges comprising a combination of industry experts and members of the public who have been selected as judges because of their interest and knowledge in online social networking.

There were great celebrations in two Castlebar schools last week as Mariyah Zia Janjua from St Joseph’s Secondary School, and Team Envirobriq, from St Gerald’s College made it through to the national final of the Green Dragon Secondary Schools Innovation Challenge. These students really impressed the dragons at the Connacht/Ulster regional heat with their innovative ideas in the environmental category and will be hoping to do the same at the national final in Croke Park on March 26. Here they will battle it out with 25 other finalists in a bid to lay claim to the top prize of €8,000 in development funds to bring their idea to the market.

Galway restaurant, Oscar’s Seafood Bistro, has been awarded Bord Bia’s Just Ask! restaurant of the month for February. The restaurant, which was set up by husband and wife Michael O’Meara and Sinead Hughes in 2000.
